SPARTAN WARRIOR - SPARTAN WARRIOR (1984)

1797_logo

The NWOBHM was a movement that gave birth to many talented bands, some of which became living legends of the genre. Although Spartan Warrior never made it to the first league, their records are still worthy representatives of the old school of the British scene, a masterful combination of 70's Hard Rock and Heavy Metal's most brazen of the 80's. Formed in Sunderland in 1980, the quintet by Dave Wilkinson, voice, Neil Wilkinson and Paul Swaddle, guitars, Tom Spencer, bass and Gordon Webster, battery, published 'Steel & Chains' in 1983 and this "Spartan Warrior' in 1984. As I say, two forgotten classics that really capture the essence of the NWOBHM. With obvious similarities to bands like Saxon, Tank, Iron Maiden and even Scorpions, Spartan Warriror music represented in a clear and clear all the best features of the NWOBHM movement. l_21d92aa4a11547c3bb00e3ac6038a291 is not by whim or chance to visit us in the Kingdom of Metal, but are now full thanks to the meeting of 4 of its original members, with varying rather Mark Chapple Paul Swaddle, to release his comeback album more than a quarter-century later, 'Behind Closed Eyes' and stepped back to European stages in 2011. As I have read in an interview with Dave Wilkinson, who also handles production, both musically and personally, it seems to have spent time ... which is a good sign. Heavy Metal Old School genuine and pure.

SAMSON - SURVIVORS (1979)

Paul Samson (1953 - 2002. RIP) was one of those musicians (guitarist in this case) remained tireless in his long career in the semi-darkness, releasing albums and giving thousands of concerts, (the most famous, the Reading Festival in 1981) without making an impact worldwide. And yet, never threw in the towel, making them worthy of admiration and indicates their true love for the music performed. From a standpoint of the history of Heavy Metal, the band Samson is remembered and known for two related reasons.

Samson One of them is that this is the band that Bruce Dickinson was issued under the name Bruce Bruce, before gaining great fame and fortune in Iron Maiden.Curiosamente in the early days of Samson, had also occupied another battery then go to Iron Maiden: Clive Burr. The second, the two albums in which they sang Dickinson ('Head On', 1980, and 'Shock Tactics', 1981), are undoubtedly two of the NWOBHM classics, with songs and outstanding musicianship of guitarist Samson plus the presence of the enigmatic masked drummer Thunderstick (Barry Graham). This debut from 1979, 'Survivors', was recorded months before Dickinson joined the band, and was recorded by both training under the trio formed by Samson, Aylmer and Thunderstick, with Samson himself assuming the vocal duties, although Dickinson appears in both the appropriations and drawing on the cover, and most of the songs are composed in collaboration with bassist John McCoy (Gillan). Following the departure of Dickinson and Thunderstick (and later, bassist Chris Aylmer (1957 - 2007. RIP), Samson goes through a transition to a Hard Rock that does not hide his roots 'Blues' with new vocalist Nicky Moore. Paul Samson remained active, recording sporadically and collaborating with various artists until his death in 2002. Samson and his colleagues are certainly worthy of respect, admiration and appreciation for their dedication to good heavy metal.

SACRED STEEL - REBORN IN STEEL (1997)

Sacred
Steel is one of the hundreds of bands that emerged in avalanche mid-nineties to the length and breadth of old Europe, specifically in Germany, as we all know a great producer of very good Metal, that having received Communion in the ' True Holy Church of Metal 'and its high priest, Manowar, rushed, ax and sword in hand, to the conquest (or reconquest) of the whole world. The band's roots date back to the 80's, when most members were already playing in bands that could gain the acclaim of the underground circuit Germany. It was not until the founding of Sacred Steel, who were able to attract attention and get massive success. Sacred_Steel_-_Reborn_In_Steel_-_Inlay After opening for bands like Blitzkrieg, they signed with Metal Blade Records in April 1997, the first German band to do so. This was their debut album "Reborn In Steel", which was launched in October 1997 and which, thanks to positive response from press and fans, Sacred Steel became one of the important bands in Metal Germany in a very short time, perhaps the apogee of this sub-genre epic based on the medieval theme called 'True Metal', and the success of bands like Hammerfall. sacred-steel-2009-022 always with the same lineup, consisting of Gerrit Mutz, singer, guitar Jörg Michael Knittel and Oliver Großhans, bassist Jens Sonnenberg and drummer Matthias Straub, recorded 4 LP's of study between the years 1998 to 2006, the year he released the live 'Live Blessings', and that is the first change in membership since the founding of Sacred Steel: The two guitarists to make off your music direct to the Death metal with his new band, 'My Darkest Hate' Sacred Steel reforming Sonnenberg change, which puts two more strings to his guitar, and the signing of Jonas Khalil young guitarist and bassist Kai Schindel. Are typical of the big festivals in Europe, having performed at the famous Wacken Open Air on two occasions and have toured with bands such as Primal Fear and Children of Bodom. Sacred Steel are not what you would call a very original band, not a marvel of technical virtues, but what do they do well, and professed a passion for heavy metal such as they understand it, you might blush at the very Joey Dimaio.

SACRED OATH - DARKNESS VISIBLE (2007)

Sacred Oath's history dates back to the mid-eighties, when in 1985 the guitarist and singer Rob 'Thorne' Volpintesta and bassist Pete Altieri form the band while still in the Institute. They released three demos from the years 1985-87, until he finally achieved the coveted recording contract and released their first LP, 'A Crystal Vision', in 1988, with subsequent tour with Fates Warning his countrymen.
2746_logo Soon after, the label went under, dragging the band. Eighteen years later, Sacred Oath was resurrected from the ashes, reissuing their debut album in 2005 and in 2007, launching 'Darkness Visible', the second long, which finally saw the light, with the original lineup (Glen Cruciani, Kenny Evans guitar, drums, along with Thorne and Altieri) and revival, more or less the same heavy metal in their early years, introducing U.S. Power Metal influences of modern and contemporary in their music, but keeping the spirit of old school in general. RobThorne Good and powerful riffing, beautiful melodies and sound very traditional, in the vein of bands like Maiden, Queensrÿche and of course, early Fates Warning. Sacred Oath today follow more active and more energetic than ever, having released an eponymous album in 2009 and, recently, 'World On Fire', which has been very well received. A great example of excellence, dedication, perseverance and passion for the good Heavy Metal, Sacred Oath deserve to be taken into account ... do not let them go and join the 'OATHBANGERS'!!!...

SKYCLAD - WAYWARD SONS OF MOTHER EARTH (1991)

'With a riff on one hand and a pint in the other '... Thus was born one of the most original bands and better quality of the last decade of the century. And there's nothing better than a dismal Newcastle pub, good pint of beer and a reunion of old friends to form a good group. We do not know the name of the pub or the number of pints they fell, but we do know that one of those cold, gray afternoon northwest English, Martin Walk, which had some 'burning' after two albums released with Sabbat, and Steve Ramsey and Graeme Inglés, two inseparable 1342-36 old dogs (Satan, Pariah ...) plus colleague Keith Baxter, 'engendered' Skyclad. They did so with much success, to cast in his music influences from the Thrash Metal Walk with the more traditional Heavy Metal Satan, and add a splash of color that ultimately result set to be over the years the most significant hallmark Skyclad: brushstrokes 'folk', with the addition of instruments like the violin. These strokes would become more obvious and would gaining prominence with the coming of age. In this first album, however, still prevailed over Metal Thrasher, born at term as only they can do great musicians like these. Skyclad are today as an institution, with a great reputation and a well deserved recognition especially in Europe. And it could not be otherwise, because it really is one of the groups with more strength and zeal have kept alive the flame of Heavy Metal. Skyclad and a good pint of beer ... this is true happiness ....

SATAN - INTO THE FUTURE + SUSPENDED SENTENCE (1987)

Among the immense wave of bands emerged in Britain during the glorious decade of the 80 twentieth century, Satan was one of the most remarkable. His debut, 'Court In The Act' , 1983, was one of the most acclaimed by audiences and critics, becoming one of the disks imprencisdibles in every good collection. untitled However, in 1984 changed its name to 'Blind Fury' and edit an album, 'Out Of Reach ', in 1985 it passed rather unnoticed, to reappear as' Satan' in 1987 published two papers, presented here as a '2 in 1 ': the EP' Into the Future 'and the LP' Suspended Sentence ', in which his music takes on a much more developed sound and aggressive, and away from the simplicity and' naivete 'of those early activists of the NWOBHM. His style here is approaching even a technically flawless thrash metal, perhaps a little ahead of its time, a circumstance which, together with the comings and goings of names, occurrences and solutions, to fool the fans, not just give the necessary support to a band that deserved it too well. After this, the core formed by Graeme indissoluble Inglés (bass), Steve Ramsey and Russ Tippins (guitars) and drummer Sean Taylor changed the name back to the group (not to be blamed on a curse), to be renamed 'Pariah '. With this new nickname brought to market three decent albums, until they decide to separate, with Inglés and Martin Ramsey joining Walk to found the wonderful 'Skyclad' and Russ Tippins enjoying like a pig on a dunghill with his cover band Led Zeppelin. In short, Satan was one of those bands 'special', with great talent who left us a legacy worthy of being appreciated as it deserves. SATAN RULES!.

SAINT VITUS - SAINT VITUS (1984)

Many bands of the current scene 'Doom' should Saint Vitus much as these Californians were already practicing these rhythmic dirges 'Sabbath' long before the genre was extended and popularized, with other bands in the USA as 'Pentagram' or 'Trouble'.

Saint-Vitus_ChandlerLM

Formed in 1979 under the original name of Tyrant bit by guitarist Dave Chandler, Scott Reagers vocalist, bassist Mark Adams, and drummer Armando Acosta, debuted in 1984 with this self-titled album, which join the 'Sabbath' that Iommi and co. had started 14 or 15 years earlier. In fact, I suspect that the very name comes from the song 'St. Vitus Dance 'consisting of Iommi - Osbourne - Butler - Ward for Vol 4 ...

Saint-Vitus_WinoLM

The main musical influence is thus clear. Anyway, Saint Vitus added to this style a lot more raw sound and more aggressive, especially on early albums, in which the production was a bit primitive. In 1986 Scott 'Wino' Heinrich Reagers replaces the microphone and consolidated training "classic" that same year he recorded his most celebrated album, 'Born Too Late. " They separated in 1996, to meet briefly in 2003, again in 2008 and now in 2010 are on tour and preparing new album, with that classically trained only altered by changing the drum kit after Henry Vasquez Acosta, for reasons health. Doom Metal course, this is pure high quality.

RIOT - ROCK CITY (1977)

Known as the 'little' band from New York with the strange pets (Johnny) Riot have come a long way. Formed by guitarist Mark Reale mark in 1976, were hits in the eighties, publishing works in the category of 'Fire Down Under' or 'Thundersteel', which are considered true classics, and some of the best metal discs eighties. After more than 30 year career and highway, 13 studio albums and two or three direct published and many lineup changes, Riot still active, working and enjoying a deserved success especially in the old Europe and Japan, mainly because their sound has always been oriented traditional Heavy Metal 'to European', although the disk in question, their debut, 'Rock City' still appreciated the touch 'blues', yes, but with a hard and heavy metallic edge that was completely unknown in the United States at the time, performed by European bands, of course. 'Rock City' is a great mix of Metal primigéneo, speed pioneer of 70's hard rock, blues, and traces of what sounds like NWOBHM, although we are in 1977. Some wonder if this is a work of Heavy Metal 100% or just a hard rock album that helped develop the genre. Well, actually, is both. A couple of the songs are, no doubt, pure Heavy Metal, while there are some issues that are right at the sharp edge of the Hard Rock. Although Riot become dramatically heavier in their later albums (eg the aforementioned masterpieces), Rock City is a true wonder of the American scene at the time. Soon would come the Jag Panzer, Halloween, Omen, Savatage, Metal Church and the list goes on and on, but ... Riot was more or less the first American band create genuine works by relying solely on their superb outside influences. The training we recorded 'Rock City' was as follows, in addition to the 'master' Reale, Guy Speranza (RIP), one of the most charismatic voices of time; LA Kouvaris, guitar, Jimmy Iommi (what sounds like the name ?) on bass and Peter Bitelli to the battery. Simply Cojonudos.

Infection In Elbow Due To Cut

RAINBOW - DOWN TO EARTH (1979)

'Down To Earth' meant for Rainbow a turning point in his career, besides being his fourth publication of study. After three such gems as 'Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow', 'Rising' and 'Long Live Rock' n 'Roll', the tandem Dio - Blackmore, one of the most brilliant that humanity has seen, is undone by leaving Dio ship to continue their upward career with Iommi in Black Sabbath. A Blackmore gives exactly the same, and without thinking twice he decided to focus the sound of Rainbow from a view more commercial and accessible, and not the epic of the above mentioned work. Hence, it seems very significant title of the album, Down To Earth, where they forget the rainbows and stars, men in the mountains of silver, the ladies of the lakes, the regicide, spells, wizards and dragons, etc ... to play and sing issues more 'worldly' and terrestrial, only Rock 'n' Roll, girls and nights of revelry. And no one better suited to sing the theme that a guy who seemed straight out of a casino in Las Vegas, or some nightclub in Outskirts, looking like a pimp three fourth, or 'Tony Manero', but .. . fuck ... with a great voice for rock 'N' Roll!. Rainbow monstersofrock1 Graham Bonnet became known to the world thanks to this album, in the end the first and last recorded Blackmore, and run after their adventures and misadventures with other geniuses of the six strings (Yngwie in Alcatrazz, Impelliteri Michael Schenker ...). Our talented guitarist completed the play convincing his old friend Roger Glover to take over production, and did so well to assume responsibility over the bass. Cozy Powell on drums and Don Airey on keyboards training was recorded in a French chateau, this work. As I say, it Rainbow Style distance themselves from their previous albums, and, sure with an eye on the lucrative U.S. market, which still did not succeed, the album marked a more 'light', with a couple of potential 'singles', and 'All Night Long' and 'Since You've Been Gone' , suitable for conventional radio stations. But mistake not, genius and sound quality of the old Rainbow still there, and it is quite noticeable in songs like 'Lost In Hollywood', 'Danger Zone', and the magnificent 'Eyes Of The World', the issue that most recalls previous eras. An album that served as perfect and logical transition between the two different major stages of Rainbow (RJ Dio - JLTurner), in addition to head the first Festival Poster Donington in 1980, with April Wine, Scorpions and Judas Priest. Simply end by saying that Rainbow has been one of the coolest bands in the history of Rock ... and anything that passed through his hands was a pure delight for the senses, and 'Down To Earth' is no exception. Enjoy.

RACER X - STREET LETHAL (1986)

>

With this debut album Americans Racer X in 1986. Street Lethal contains 11 tracks everything you want in a good album of Heavy Metal. Stratospheric alone, by one of the best guitarists in the world, Paul Gilbert, paulgilbertcurseoftheca solid rhythmic base and very good voices. Racer X were sponsored in the beginning by Mike Varney, which is a guarantee of quality and although Lethal Street does not have a shiny production, it does sound pretty raw, fierce and majestic like to remind you why you love this music. Racer X was one of the many bands that swarmed Los Angeles in the mid 80's, only consisted of four great geniuses of music. Besides the aforementioned Gilbert, Jeff Martin, John Alderete and Gschoesser Harry stepped closer to 'merge' technical virtuosity and wonderful high school with the aggressiveness and power of metal over 'vulgar', as it were somehow getting so please everyone: those who want an electric guitar clinic and those who play racquet with relish. As a cross between Yngwie Malmsteen or Steve Vai with Judas Priest or Accept ... the result ... a thirsty beast of metal but with a brain overdeveloped. The perfect ... Racer X!!.

QUO VADIS - FOREVER (1996)

Quo Vadis is a band from Quebec, Canada, formed in 1993 and debuted in 1996 with this work entitled 'Forever'. At that time consisted of guitarists and vocalists Bart Itman Frydrychowicz and Arie, Remy Beauchamp bassist and drummer Yanic Bercier. They were bad times for the true Metal, in which everyone was quite puzzled and somewhat ideas collapsed after the explosion, like a sudden cosmic event, different 'genres' of music, such as Grunge, Industrial, Indie Rock, etc, etc, to contribute something positive away from what they did was blur and lethargic scene real Heavy Metal. In this state of affairs, many bands chose to radicalize their sound, and so came the rise and the invasion of hundreds of thousands of groups playing Death Metal, all praising their Lord Satan and sounding exactly the same (bad), except for some exceptions to the rule. Some of those bands added to the radicalization of a component of sound instrumental technique and compositional classic touches, the addition of keyboards and instruments rather unusual in the Rock (violins, etc ...) and a few fresh ideas and created a style that at least brought some originality to their music and they differed from other .

d32

Such is the case of Quo Vadis, whose main strength lies in the structure of their songs, rather unconventional, and yet, making them sound fluid and not too difficult to digest. Frequent changes of tempos, the wide range of arrangements worked riffs and leave a good impression. Despite being a self-funded and self-produced debut, shows that Quo Vadis know what they want and trying to get what they do. His constant desire to innovate can see through his love for classical music, using piano and violin. In general, 'Forever' is an album that could be called "Melodic Death Metal, or Technical 'which was the label that was invented to classify all those groups who, Quo Vadis, despite playing Death Metal, read a score, or vice versa. Open-minded bands and a broad perspective, which is always good.
